about dustin

BIRTH NAME:
Dustin Michael Silva

NICKNAMES:
Dusty*, Dustybear*, Mr. Dustin, Gadera, Gad.
*I only allow certain people to call me "Dusty" or any variation thereof. Coming from anyone else, it tends to piss me off, so don't do it.

AGE/BIRTHDAY:
23 - April 5, 1986

NATIONALITY:
I am half Mexican, half good ol' American mutt. For those of you that don't know "American mutt" roughly means "there's so many little bits, who the fuck knows?"

LANGUAGE:
My primary language is English, which I was born and raised with (and therefore am now fluent in).

Though not proficient enough in Spanish to be considered fluent, my overall knowledge is second to my older sister, but practical conversation skills rank first. We both far surpass our father who, while being Mexican, only has the looks and ability to say "Hello," "Goodbye," "Thank you," and "You're welcome," or variations thereof.

SYMBOLOGY:
Zodiac: Aries.
Chinese: Tiger, Fire

LOCALE:
SW Portland/Metro area, Oregon

OCCUPATION:
Amazingly with the current economy, I am managing to hold two jobs. I work full time (officially part time) as a Food Clerk for Fred Meyer Stores, owned by the Kroger family of companies. This mainly entails overnight stocking of our freight deliveries. I also write the frozen department's order two days a week and am usually the person-in-charge (PIC) of the freight crew two nights a week (backup-PIC the other three).

I also work part time as a Crew Chief and full-range staff trainer (including management training) for a McDonalds restaurant operating under the Greentree Enterprises franchise. I previously worked at my current location as an Asisstant Store Manager, but quit for personal reasons as well as conflict of interest after transferring to another store. Now that I'm back as merely part time, I opted for a demotion from any management position in an effort to make the job as undemanding for me as possible.

GOALS:
I'm not one of those peole that has many little goals leading to a grand ol' goal. My only real goal in life is to find a career (or job I'm content with) that will allow me to establish and support a loving family of my own.

HOBBIES:
Reading, TXTing anytime of day or night, watching movies, getting back into graphic/web design.

FRIENDSHIPS:
I have few true friends and many acquaintances. I value each and every one of them though, in their own right. At this time, the three closest unrelated friends are Jeremy, Ashlynn and Kristi.

RELATIONSHIP:
Single. Though I'm not really actively looking for a relationship at this time, I'm also not trying to steer away from them. I just simply don't have the focus to be out looking for that person at this time.

FAMILY:
My immediate family consists of four siblings, including myself, and two parents. My brother is one of the absolutely most important people in my life, yet nobody would guess that based on how often we are in contact. He currently lives in New Orleans, with his wife and their son. I currently live with my dad, while I work on bringing myself to a point where I can support myself otherwise - whether that be on my own, or with another person/people. My mother and younger sister both live, currently together, on the other side of town, though my younger sister is working on getting her own place with a friend. My older sister is working on moving out of her Kitsap-area home (of course, she intends to take her husband and son with her). My nephews can totally kick your nephews' asses.

WRITING:
I love to write, yet I hardly ever have time to do it. I do not write poems or songs, but prose or stories (or rather, snippets of stories). I never have the focus to finish an actual story, as my mind can envelop the entire storyline but hit a brick wall the moment I have a writing medium at my disposal.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE:
Last I checked, I currently stand at a whole 6'3.5". That half inch is quite important, as it makes me a half inch more likely to hit my head than my brother. I am skinny, but quite muscular. Occasionally, people assume that I must be really buff because of my line of work and schedule. While I disagree that I look buff, I hardly disagree that I have the corresponding muscle. My body does not grow to showcase my muscle, especially as I do not work out. I have hazel eyes, containing a good mix of green and brown, which are kept safely behind a pair of glasses. I have dark brown hair which I prefer at a finger's width length, but is often a shaggy length cause I don't feel like getting it cut. Speaking of cutting, I almost always have at least three cuts and one burn a day somewhere on my body. It just happens to be that way from work, regardless of how "safe" I work.

GEEKSPEAK:
My core piece of technology is my laptop, a HP Pavilion Entertainment series dv9428nr notebook. It contains a 17.3" widescreen display, 2GB RAM, dual-core AMD processor and 240GB of storage space, shared between two internal hard disk drives which utilize the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 often fills my graphic design needs, while Notepad and MovableType work in conjunction with eachother to meet my web design goals. SmartFTP is the means by which these two types of design come to shake hands.

I access mail and internet via Windows Live Mail and Mozilla Firefox, respectively. Online social contact is made via social networking sites, Windows Live Messenger (MSN) and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM).

Offline social contact is made via my Samsung Rant cell phone, most often in the form of TXTing, as I am not particularly fond of talking on the phone. While at work, I often drown out the background noise via my 120GB iPod Classic, streamed through SkullCandy earphones.
